What
a hard-working Board we have! These
24 members give of their time and energy for the benefit of our club. There are also over 20 activity and
interest groups led by volunteers who plan events for our enjoyment. As members, there are ways we can make
their jobs easier. Please R.S.V.P. to
your activity or event leader(s) if that is asked of you, and respect
registration deadlines for luncheons and special events. Remember that restaurants and caterers
with whom we contract to do business must plan carefully for the number of
people we say are coming to an event.
If that number keeps changing, it can make it difficult for all
involved in the planning. And if you
express your gratitude for the planning of events; it is so appreciated, and
can really make someone’s day! All of
these courtesies can improve the enjoyment for everyone in the Club! Mary

Antoinette Bradley / (303) 674-3578 /
agjb1010@aol.com It’s almost ski
time! This group is a terrific way to
meet new skiers and make new friends.
Beginning in December, we’ll schedule different days of the week to
ski at various local resorts. The
group is usually between 3 to 7 skiers on a ski day. Contact Antoinette if you’re interested in
hosting a ski day at Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, Keystone, Loveland,
Winter Park or Vail. |
|
Alix Ferranti / (303) 674-8513 /
alixferranti@earthlink.net Welcome to all new
and old members. We continue to meet
at HearthFire Books in Evergreen the third Monday of each month at 9:30
a.m. In September, we had a good
turnout to discuss Seabiscuit. In October, we read and discussed The Secret Life of Bees. Future selections will be communicated by
e-mail. You may forward your e-mail
address if you haven’t, or please call for other information. |
|
LaDona Vincent / (303) 526-2779 /
ladona@vincentco.com The movie for October
was Lost in Translation. For all those who’ve lived in a foreign
country with a different culture and language, it was an interesting study of
the disconnect one feels working and living there. Our next outing is November 5th. You’ll be informed of the movie the weekend before and we’ll
carpool from Carpet Mills area at Bergen Park King Soopers. |
|
Audrey Boyan / (303) 674-4872 / aboyan@wizway.net Due to the
Thanksgiving holiday, our meeting date has changed to November 12th, instead
of the fourth Wednesday. We meet at
HearthFire Bookstore in Evergreen at 10:00 a.m. Our next selection is The
Route Home. Arleta Simms is a
local author, and we’re looking forward to her visit. |
|
Pat Cappelli / (303) 526-4156 / rcpcapp@aol.com Liz Jones / (303) 679-1301 / labjones@earthlink.net Our group will meet
next on November 10th at 9:30 a.m. at Jay Wilson’s home. Bette Carcano will lead us in a discussion
of The Secret Life of Bees by Sue
Monk Kidd. Refreshments will be
provided by Mary Carlson and Joyce Rasbach.
Directions to Jay’s house will be e-mailed shortly. Please R.S.V.P. to Jay at (303) 679-6326. |
|
Audrey Boyan / (303) 674-4872 / aboyan@wizway.net We are a newly formed
book group and we had our first book review last month. Our book selection was the popular The DaVinci Code. We meet at HearthFire Bookstore the fourth
Tuesday of each month. We meet next
on November 25th at 10:00 a.m. |
|
Joel Pearl / (303) 674-7573 / spearl@worldnet.att.net We’ll meet at 10:00
a.m. at Mount Vernon Country Club on November 5th, November 20th, December
3rd, and December 18th. If you want
to play on 11/05 and 11/20, contact Lyn Barrie at lbarrie500@msn.com or call
(303) 674-1421. If you want to play
on 12/03 and 12/18, contact Dawn Faloon at dfaloon@aol.com or call (303)
679-9947. There’s no need to call if
you originally signed up and have joined Newcomers. |
|
Bob Ogden / (303) 670-9014 / ogdenrv@wans.net Colette de Ville / (303) 670-6835 /
devillenco@aol.com Participation
in this group continues to grow.
Eighteen people, one dog, and the maximum permissible 8 vehicles
enjoyed our September outing over Georgia Pass, the historic and primary
route between South Park and Breckenridge in the 1860s! Glacier Ridge atop the Continental Divide
was the site of our picnic lunch. On
October 25th, we’ll tackle Jenny Creek Trail above Moffat Tunnel. And on November 22nd, we’ll explore
Democrat Mountain and Bard Creek, between Empire and Georgetown. Signup is first-come, first-served in
response to each e-mail trip announcement.
See you on the trail! |
|
Dianne Rotolo / (303) 679-1114 / rolo417@aol.com Many thanks to Judy
Parr for hosting a fantastic evening in September. It was fun to see all the familiar faces again, and we’ve been
blessed with many “newcomers.” And
thanks to all of you who brought goodies.
Karen Schenk will host our October game on the 22nd. Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, the
November game will be on the 19th. So
mark your calendars. The host for the
19th will be announced shortly via e-mail. |
|
Need Leader Our group is in
pursuit of the fine arts of painting, sculpture, hand-crafted jewelry, and
other crafts. We tour art galleries
in the front range, as well as Santa Fe, New Mexico. We meet with gallery directors to learn
about the work they represent and the artists. Our group is fun, informal, and informative. |
|
Barb Guist / (303) 679-6780 / touteswt7@aol.com Diane Purdy / (303) 670-9566 / rpurdy3@mindspring.com We’re thrilled to
have our first dinner of the season on Saturday, November 1st! Gourmet co-leader Barb Guist has planned a
fabulous fall menu we’re certain everyone will savor. For those of you who haven’t joined our
group and would like to try it, we need more substitute members. Subs can join at any time during the
season. So give us a call and come
try out our group! |
|
Renee Kilmer / (303) 679-4907 This group of golfers
joins together to have fun! We meet
from spring through fall every Tuesday morning usually at Evergreen Golf
Course. Golf season has now ended and
will restart in May 2004. If you’re
worried about any of us being a Tiger Woods, relax, we’re not, so come golf
with us next season! |
|
Julie Attebery / (303) 679-8102 / aldogcolo@cs.com Don’t put away your
boots when the snow starts to fly.
Clip on some snowshoes and join us every Friday. Snowshoeing is very easy and gives you the
freedom to enjoy the outdoors in the snowy weather. It’s just as easy as hiking -- just put one foot in front of
the other, and you are an instant success!
We always welcome new friends and are excited about the ever-growing
size of our group! |
|
Wendi Kerbel / (303) 679-3305 /
wkerbel@evergreen-co.com This group provides
an opportunity for mothers of children under age 5 to meet other mothers, as
well as get the kids together to play.
Our group meets Monday mornings from 10:00 a.m. to noon but sometimes
on Tuesday mornings instead. We
usually get together at member homes during the winter and at other
designated locations during the summer. |

Louann Young / (303) 670-4617 / landlyoung@aol.com If you enjoy
knitting, cross-stitch, crochet, quilting, or any other kind of needlework,
join our group! We gather together at
member homes the first Tuesday of each month to work on our individual
projects. Our next meeting is
November 4th from 10:00 a.m. until noon at Helen Markus’s home. R.S.V.P. to Helen at (303) 670-2233 if you
plan to join. Helen will give you
directions to her home. Hope to see
you then! |

Mary Ann Ogden / (303) 670-9014 / ogdenma@wans.net Karen Peiffer / (303) 670-3722 / peiffer@att.net Our group will meet
in the home of Joyce and Jim Rasbach on November 20th at 11:00 a.m. We are meeting a week earlier than usual
because of Thanksgiving. Joyce has
invited a couple to come to Evergreen to talk to us about their experiences
in China. Yangzhou fried rice will
again be on the luncheon menu, as well as other dishes from China. Sign-ups begin on November 1st by
e-mailing or calling Mary Ann. |
|
Darla Schwartz / (303) 670-5941 /
bendarla@hotmail.com This is a group for
those who enjoy fine dining. Couples
and singles are welcome. One of the
newest sensations on the Denver scene is Cielo, a terrific-looking, upscale
establishment featuring exciting presentations of gourmet dishes with a
Latino flair. The food speaks of
Mexico and the Southwest, with a little bit of Spain thrown in for good
measure. We’ll meet next at Mail
Boxes, Etc. on Tuesday, November 11th at 6:15 p.m. to carpool. Only 18 can attend, so contact Darla early
with your reservation. |
|
Darla Schwartz / (303) 670-5941 /
bendarla@hotmail.com On Monday, November
17th, we’ll experience down-home hospitality and savory Creole cooking at
highly-rated Gumbo’s Louisiana Style Café (www.aaamenus.com/gumbos.html). Gumbo’s prides itself on the freshest
ingredients and most authentic preparation of such culinary delights as
shrimp, oysters, crab, chicken, po boys, gumbos, and a variety of fish. The ambiance is cozy and the staff
friendly. We’ll meet at Mail Boxes,
Etc. at 11:15 a.m. and carpool.
Contact Darla to reserve your space. |
|
Lyn Barrie / (303) 674-1421 / lbarrie500@msn.com This
month’s wine tip… If we only had to match the bird with the wine, there would
be no problem. However, those sweet
trimmings, such as marshmallow-topped sweet potatoes and sugary cranberry
sauce make dry wines sour and sweet wines insipid. The safest solution is to drink young, lively, uncomplicated
wines, such as Beaujolais Nouveau, or on the white side, Riesling, Pinot
Gris, or Chenin Blanc. Any
combination of red, white, sparkling, rose, or off-dry wines can add to the
festivities! Happy Turkey Day! |
|
Sara & Dick Sperry / (303) 670-0415 /
rsperry@iesce.com Thanks to Pat and
Casey Stengel for taking calls and hosting in October. Thanks also to Sheri and Mac McFarlane for
providing the second house. Please
remember, if you can’t come, be sure to call and cancel. If you cancel on the day of the potluck,
you are still expected to bring your dish to the host’s home! To attend potluck on November 8th, call
Sara or Dick Sperry at (303) 670-0415. |
|
Marion Dries / (303) 670-5141 / jpd3009@prodigy.net In October, we dined
and wined at the home of Julie and Jim DeLeeuw. The prime rib was delicious and the wines luscious. Thanks to Julie and Jim! We meet next on Saturday, November 15th at
the home of Pat and Bruce Thoms.
Please don’t forget to call them at (303) 670-1793 by November 10th
with a “yes” or “no.” See you soon! |
|
Renee Kilmer / (303) 679-4907 Come share a glass of
wine, tea, coffee, or lunch and enjoy pleasant conversation with this new
singles group. Help us plan events
like an afternoon at the movies or a play.
Or possibly lunch, take part in a road rally, or just enjoy some jazz
or do dinner. We’ll meet next on
Sunday, November 16th at 12:30 p.m. at Keys On The Green for brunch. |
|
Colette de Ville / (303) 670-6835 /
devillenco@aol.com Thank you to Linda
and Clark Jackson for a great evening in September. On November 15th, we’ll meet at Julie and Jim Schmidt’s
house. As usual, details will follow
by e-mail. Please make sure to
R.S.V.P. on time. Until then, happy
tastings to all! |
|
Susan Baker / (970) 949-1135 / susan_dcsinc@qwest.net Many thanks to Brian
Aikin and Petra Brouwers for a lovely evening of French wines and gourmet
foods. After Brian and Petra’s trip
to Provence, they were able to share firsthand their wine knowledge. Our November tasting will be at Bruce and
Gail Montgomery’s home. Please
R.S.V.P. to them at (303) 670-2495 no later than November 7th. We all wish Missy McBride a speedy knee
surgery recovery! |
|
Dan Cooper / (303) 674-1435 / flyingdrc@msn.com Thank you to Norm and
Carol for their very fine selection of Boudreaux red wines in September. The meal was excellent. Our next tasting is on November 15th at
Bill and Carol Slaughter’s house.
Please R.S.V.P. by November 7th and find out what dish to bring. Their phone number is (303) 670-8396. |
|
Patti Ferguson / (303) 679-1477 / cmpferg@aol.com (To be announced.) |
|
Need Leader Anyone interested in
leading and forming this new wine group, please contact Lyn Barrie at (303)
674-1421 or e-mail at lbarrie500@msn.com. |
|
Ingrid Davis / (303) 674-4837 / idavisdesign@aol.com Thanks to Bette Anne
and Mark Mayberry for a wonderful evening at their home last month. Our November 15th tasting will be at the
home of Jay and Chuck Wilson. Please
R.S.V.P. to Jay at (303) 679-6326 for your food assignment. |
|
Angela Thacker / (303) 670-1564 / athacker@nmg.org Many thanks to Adam
and Hanna Sicker for hosting the October wine party at their home. For the next wine party, we’ll meet at
Wine in the Woods on Saturday, November 15th. Contact Charlotte and Mike Bornhouser for this event. |

Need Leader Even if the weather
says no, the spirit says yes! We get
together each month regardless of weather conditions. All levels welcome. You don’t need to be a Lance Armstrong to
join our group. We just like to have
fun. So come on, let’s get rolling! |
|
Bonnie Hisgen / (303) 526-2411 / batashley@aol.com If you want to engage
in fun activities on an occasional basis, this group’s for you. In the summer we visited Celestial Seasonings,
attended the Jefferson Symphony Concert, as well as the Shakespeare Festival
in Boulder. We communicate with each
other by e-mail and welcome suggestions.
We look forward to our next outing. |
|
Dawn Faloon / (303) 679-9947 / dfaloon@aol.com We met in September
to make two different styles of angel ornaments. They all turned out so cute.
Afterwards, we enjoyed lunch and dessert. In October, we met at a brand new member’s home, Marie Glath,
who showed us how to do rubber stamping on gift bags and greeting cards. It was fun to learn a new craft. We will not meet in November, but look
forward to our homemade ornament exchange in December. |
